During the upcoming months, the club will be developing a set of maps and route
descriptions for road rides in Sevier and Jefferson counties. There are some of these
available now and should be accessible on this site in the near future. We would
appreciate any suggestions for routes from the members. We have a software program
that enables us to check out the routes in advance, and we hope to map out the entire
region to identify rides based on safety, road surface, and scenic or historic interests.

Bike Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT) The 15th BRAT will be held this year in Middle Tennessee from September 18-25. The 300+ mile ride will be a loop starting in Gallatin and using state parks and historic sites for overnight stays. The trip if fully supported with three meals per day provided. Full details are available at:<www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/BRAT/>

Story of the month On a trip to the Virginia Creeper last October, one of the club members met a70+ year old rider at the Green Cove Depot. After a brief discussion, the elderly gentleman headed down toward Damascus while the club member rode on the end of the trail at White Top. There he saw a picture of the man he had just met, with an article about his
love of the trail. His name is Lawrence Dye, a resident of Abingdon, and he bikes the entire route from Abingdon through Damascus up to Whitetop three to five times each week, year round--about 75 miles round trip with a total climb of about 2000 feet.
