From Feb. 23 through March 1, replacement work  will be performed on the low water fords across two creeks on the south side, or exit side, of the loop road. During this time the road will be closed only to motor vehicles.

During work on the  fords, bikers and hikers will be able to enjoy most of the roads without competition from cars, although they will not be able to go all the way around the 11 mile loop. Visitors will be able hike or bike from the entrance for about 7 miles past the Cades Cove visitors center to Hyatt Lane, a gravel road that bisects the valley.

At that point visitors may cut across the cove on Hyatt Lane and return via the north side of the loop.
